This post describes a dashboard page that was created, based on survey feedback from users of our Oracle Analytics reporting platform that it was difficult to find content, they didn’t know what content existed, or they had to go to many different reports to get summary numbers.
Thus, working with our BI end user liaisons, we created what we’ve called to as the “Weekly Recap”. This single dashboard page allowed users to access summary sales information about key business metrics, and also contained links to existing content in OAC where they could dig deeper. In a way, it was functioning as a report directory / table of contents for existing reports, as well as a place to give people key information in one spot, solving all three pieces of feedback at once.
This page did not require significant RPD modelling to create, as for the most part, while the metrics came from different presentation subject areas, they were all from a single logical business model using confirmed date, product and store dimensions. Over time, we got some additional requests to add a few additional metrics that were not part of the core business model; and we did have to create a few additional logical facts to present the summarized data into the same business model.
Within a few weeks of launching this page, it’s now consistently in the top five most used reports each week and the feedback from users was overwhelmingly positive.
